Tomorrow’s Easter!

22 March 2008 in Uncategorized

I hope that you get to spend time with your family tomorrow, and all of us at Dadsworld wish you a Happy Easter!

My wife and I took our son out to dinner tonight, and the waiter noticed my Dadsworld.com shirt.  He asked me about it and said he has seen our bumper sticker around and thought he should check the site out.  He is a new father as well, and I told him what we were all about.  Cool!  Have you bought your Dadsworld.com shirt yet?  They look great and make a statement.

A Real Estate client of mine brought something to my attention today that I thought was pretty neat.  I was showing him our www.dadsworld.com site, and telling him that I wanted the black background because I thought it was a good looking color-scheme, as well as “masculine” looking.  He commented that it saved energy and was a very “green” site as well.  He went on to tell me about a search engine site that Google offers called “Blackle.”  The black screen saves energy.  So, not only is our site cool looking, it is environmentally friendly as well!  :)

Here is a quote from the google website “blackle.”

“Blackle was created by Heap Media to remind us all of the need to take small steps in our everyday lives to save energy. Blackle searches are powered by Google Custom Search.

Blackle saves energy because the screen is predominantly black. “Image displayed is primarily a function of the user’s color settings and desktop graphics, as well as the color and size of open application windows; a given monitor requires more power to display a white (or light) screen than a black (or dark) screen.” Roberson et al, 2002

In January 2007 a blog post titled Black Google Would Save 750 Megawatt-hours a Year proposed the theory that a black version of the Google search engine would save a fair bit of energy due to the popularity of the search engine.  We believe that there is value in the concept because even if the energy savings are small, they all add up. Secondly we feel that seeing Blackle every time we load our web browser reminds us that we need to keep taking small steps to save energy.”

 Good stuff!
