Small Town Christmas Parade

This morning my parents came over to join my wife and I and our 2 children in walking to the center our little town to watch the annual Christmas Parade.  It was cold and raining, but that didn’t dampen our spirits at all.  We dressed appropriately and met up with my wife’s parents once we got there.  It wasn’t a very long parade, but there were 2 fire engines, several lama’s, a few dogs and even a couple draft horses pulling a covered wagon.  There were plenty of kids dressed up like elves throwing out candy, some pick-ups with decorated trees in the back, and even a public works truck blowing out fake snow.  Of course, Santa was there as well, riding in the old fashioned fire truck.

After the parade passed, everyone met up at the fire station to see Santa and have hot chocolate and cookies.  Our son, who is obsessed with cars, got to visit Santa and tell him about the car he wants for Christmas.  It was fun to see him really study Santa (a good looking Santa with a real white beard), and be very serious about what he wanted.  Just as he came off of Santa’s lap and we walked outside the fire station, it started to snow.  Perfect.

We then walked back home and spent the morning visiting, listening to Christmas music and playing with the toy train that goes around our tree.  A fun time for all of us, and a day that represents what I love about this time of year… spending time with family.

We hope you enjoy these kinds of days with your family as well.  This is the time of year for giving, sharing and appreciating all that you have.  Enjoy it.

With children, the magic of the Christmas Season is renewed in all of us… if you want it to be.  I personally welcome it, and embrace it.  Don’t let the season pass you by, this is the time to create memories and strengthen the bond of love in your family too.

This evening before putting our son to bed, we watched the movie The Polar Express… again.  Our son loves it, and he will watch the entire movie snuggled up in my arms.  THAT creates great memories for me.
