Risk Takers

I just finished watching the movie, “We are Marshall,” which I have seen a couple times before.  Each time I watch it I am touched by the risks that the President of the University and the coach took when they continued the football program after the tragic plane crash that took place at 7:35pm on November 14th, 1970.  Even though the coach Jack Lengle didn’t have a great record (9-33) in the following years, he had the courage to keep the program running.  Eventually, Marshall became a powerhouse in college football and as they said in the movie, it did become about winning again at some point.

Really courageous people who are willing to take risks against popular opinion, because it’s the right thing to do are rare.  I am fascinated by the stories of these people, and admire their strength of character.  The world needs more people like that.  More people willing to do what’s right, no matter what popular opinion happens to be.  Doing the right thing isn’t always the easiest path to take, but it’s the only one worth admiring.

Be sure to be that example in your own life, and if you are, you can’t lose.  Like Jack Lengle said, “We may be behind on the scoreboard at the end of the game, but if you give it everything you’ve got and lay your heart on the line, we can’t lose.”
