Pearl Harbor Day

68 years ago today was the “day which will live in infamy,” according to President Roosevelt.

December 7, 1941 was the day that the Japanese Navy suprise attacked the United States Naval base at Pearl Harbor.  This attack led to the involvement of the United States Military into WWII.  2,402 were killed and 1,282 wounded.  4 battleships were sunk along with 3 destroyers, 3 cruisers and 1 minelayer.  188 aircraft were also destroyed.

The Japanese Admiral Hara Tadaichi summed up the result of Pearl Harbor by saying, “We won a great tactical victory at Pearl Harbor and thereby lost the war.”  The attack was the worst thing that Japan could have done.  The unintended consequence was to awaken the giant (USA) and ultimately lose the war and their military.

Take a moment to remember those men and women who lost their lives while serving their country those 68 years ago.

We all need to take a little time to remember important historical events.  Perspective can be gained, and appreciation for what we have will be heightened.  Be sure to make our kids understand what sacrifices have been given to them, and be sure they are aware of their responsibility to EARN them.
