My first (and Last?) Political Post

4 November 2008 in Uncategorized

Along with many of you, I just finished watching the speeches of both candidates for the office of the President of the United States.  I was impressed with the sincerety of both men, and the eloquence of the winner, Barack Obama was moving.  Both men made a point to get the crowds to drop the sarcasm and come together, after all we are the UNITED States of America… just like the new dadsworld.com shirt says “E Pluribus Unum.”  From Many, One.  I sure hope President-elect Obama can live up to his fantastic platform, and really help bring Americans together.  We have been much too divisive for far to long.

Conservative, moderate or liberal… I believe that most of us (the vast majority) love our country, are proud of hard work and take responsibility for ourselves.  I hope we can get serious about being on the same “team”, and rekindle the American Spirit of independence, honor, justice and self-reliance.  I hope people are willing to work for what they get, and not demand a penny more.  I want people to respect the accomplishments of others, not belittle or envy them.

If Obama really can bring about the change for the better that he promises, then he will have succeeded in his presidency… and that is good no matter what political party you belong to.  We ALL belong to the party of AMERICANS, and we are all in this together… after all.

Listen to the Charlie Daniel’s song, “In America,” and I think you will get a good idea of what many people are feeling.  Here is a part of that song:

From the sound up in Long Island out to San Francisco Bay
And ev’ry thing that’s in between them is our home
And we may have done a little bit of fighting amongst ourselves
But you outside people best leave us alone
Cause we’ll all stick together and you can take that to the bank
That’s the cowboys and the hippies and the rebels and the yanks
You just go and lay your head on a Pittsburgh Steeler fan
And I think you’re gonna finally understand

And you never did think that it ever would happen again
In America, did you?
You never did think that we’d ever get together again
Well we damn sure fooled you
We’re walking real proud and we’re talking real loud again in America
You never did think that it ever would happen again…
