Martin Luther King, Jr.

Martin Luther King, Jr. was 34 years old when he delivered his “I have a dream” speech.  Impressive.  He was also the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964.

I personally feel on this day in honor of the Baptist Minister, orator and leader; we should take some time to come up with solutions to the problems with the system.  The system is still flawed, and not enough mercy and compassion is built-in.  I am pleased to see all the donations going to the victims of the earthquake in Haiti, and once again America is at the forefront with relief efforts.  But we still don’t always take care of our own, we have poor, hungry and empoverished right here at home, and racism is still (unfortunately) alive and well.

As a father myself, I am always aware of how I am acting and what I stand for, as this will greatly influence my children’s lives as well.  Rarely does a figure come along with a powerful and polarizing message that has relevance to the masses.  King should be remembered, and his views on human rights, civil rights and racial discrimination deserve study.
