It’s August!

1 August 2009 in Uncategorized

We are still going strong with 90+ degree temperatures for 8 consecutive days, a record in the Portland, Oregon area.  It was 106 a couple of days ago.  We have been spending a lot of time swimming in the river, boating and generally trying to stay cool.

Congratulations to Jim Chandler of Maumee, Ohio.  He won the August free t-shirt drawing.  Be sure to register as a member on the www.dadsworld.com home page for automatic entry into our drawings, and other benefits.

I picked up a People magazine the other day, something I rarely do, and saw an article on the John and Kate situation.  It seems to be everywhere, so I can’t (no matter how hard I try) escape from it.  The entire fascination with celebrities and endless gossip scene really make me sick.  I can hardly believe that so many people put such an emphasis on these losers, and invest a huge amount of time and emotion in these people who they don’t even know.  Oh well, I doubt I will ever “get it.”  What really struck me when looking over the People magazine article was how they said “It’s like a weight has been lifted off John’s shoulders.”  Apparanly, this loser is so much happier now that he has a girlfriend and isn’t stuck with the old ball and chain (who apparantly is a witch.)  I have not seen more than 10 minutes total of their show, so I don’t claim to be an expert on their marriage or the in’s and out’s of their relationship…but I do know this:  a man who voluntarily marries a woman, then makes 8 children with her, should grow up, be responsible and act like the Father of those kids.  He supposedly hasn’t enjoyed the dating scene and never got the chance to party as much as his peers, because he had all of these kids.  Cry me a river.  What an incredible loser.  He gives the term Dad and Father a bad name.  He CREATED the situation he found himself in.  Nobody held a gun to his head.  Now those poor children’s lives are being destroyed and forever altered in a negative way because their parents refuse to grow up.  His kids now have to watch as he dates girls on the public stage.  Pathetic.  Both of them, AND the scum girlfriend who thinks it’s just fine to date a man who is married and has 8 children.  Do we really have to hear more about these vermin?

Another rant that I have been saving up is about the show on MTV 16 and Pregnant.  In the episode that I watched a few minutes of, a girl (who became pregnant out of wedlock with some ex-boyfriend) was talking to the doctor about breastfeeding.  The doctor gets through explaining the benefits to the baby of breastfeeding, then the girl says she doesn’t want to breastfeed.  “I heard it makes your boobs sag, so I don’t want to do it.”  The doctor responded to my delight, “PREGNANCY does that.”  The girl was so vain, and so concerned about her image and her looks (typical of a 16 year old), and SHE is going to be a Mother.  Talk about an insult to the word Mom.  What a brat.  I feel sorry for her daughter, as statistics show she has a tough road ahead.

This is NOT OK.  We should not be glorifying and promoting (for profit) this type of behavior that drags us all down.  Unwed single mothers are a serious problem in this country.  The rest of us end up paying for their poor decisions, as do their innocent children.

Shock culture has become the norm, and it’s NOT good.  We need to take a look at what we are promoting, and the effects it has on society and our children.  ANYTHING for money is a terrible way to run a civilized society.  The breakdown of that society is only a matter of time.  I just hope we come to our senses and start promoting things of value before it’s too late.
