Hot Wheels!

My brother and I had a lot of great times playing with Hot Wheels when we were kids.  We would often set tracks up and run cars down side-by-side, racing and seeing which ones could go the farthest.  A long, tile hallway served as the perfect area to play with cars in the house we grew up in.  I still have nearly all the cars from my childhood, and I introduced my son to them this past week.  He is 20 months old now, and definately a car fanatic.  I hoped he would enjoy the Hot Wheels as much as I did growing up.  He loved them!

He has played almost exclusively with them every day since.  He has picked out a favorite as well, the “Classic caddy.”  He will go through the entire box of 51 cars to pick that one out, every time.  He and I will literally play for hours and not realize how much time has gone by.  Seeing the cars really brings back memories for me.  I had forgotten about some of them, and now when I look at them, it really brings me back emotionally to when I was a kid.  Pretty neat.  All of those years of saving the box they were in has been well worth it.

We went to dinner last night and our son played with 3 cars the entire time.  He ate well, and never yelled, whined, screamed, complained, etc.  He was totally content with his 3 cars.  In fact, another couple came up to us after we were done eating and exiting the restaurant and commented on how “well behaved (our) your boy was.”  They said they could never do that with their 3 year old girl, as she would cause a scene.  They were impressed, as were my wife and I at how calm and occupied our son was.

Thanks Hot Wheels.  Great product.  For roughly 89 cents you can buy a brand new car, and you can practically get them for free at garage sales.  What a great toy!  :)

I look forward to many, many more hours of fun with my son playing and reliving my own childhood.  Much of that time will probably be spent playing with Hot Wheels.
