Happy Mother’s Day!

11 May 2008 in Uncategorized

Today is a day to celebrate our Moms.  What can I say about my own mother, but she is a profound influence on my life.  I never really understood the things mothers go through, until my wife and I had our own child.  All of the little things that Moms do, that little children don’t even know, or soon forget.  We owe a lot to our Moms, and I hope you take a moment to thank the Mom in your life today and everyday.

One of the things about Moms that amazes me is their patience.  Moms seem to have the ability to stay calm and steady, even in the face of chaos and hyperactivity.  I consider myself a pretty patient person, but my wife inspires me in this area.  Patience is such a crucial skill to develop for parents.  I never realized how much I would need it after I had kids.  There are so many times that you can’t do what you planned, when you planned it when you have little ones.  When you don’t have kids, you pretty much zone-out whenever you want.  You can take spur of the moment trips, take naps or sleep in.  You pretty much run your own schedule, and if something comes up that you want to do or watch, you do it.  When you have kids, sometimes those things just can’t happen, and it takes extreme patience sometimes to deal with what’s going on.  I try to model my own mother and my wife in this regard.  EXTREME patience.

I think that Moms should be thanked and glorified for the wonderful things they do for us.  Being a parent, Mom or Dad, is the MOST important thing you will do.  Forget what people say about careers and intellectual accomplishments.  Those things pale in comparison to actually raising a human being.  Guiding a life and directing a child is the biggest responsibility of all.  I want to thank those parents who are doing it well.  You are doing the rest of the world a big service.

It seems that many people think being a parent is no big deal.  Well, those people are dead wrong.  Some parents may not do a very good job, or be as involved as they should be, but just like anything in life, there are different levels of parenting.  Just because someone has a child, that doesn’t automatically make them a good parent.  That’s what Dadsworld.com is all about.  Recognizing, praising and encouraging those parents who ARE doing it right.  Good, involved parents are deserving of SO much more than they get.

If you choose to be a parent, you owe it to your child to be the best parent you can be.  Make it the #1 priority in your life and you (and the child and the world) will reap the rewards.

So, to those of you who are raising your children, Thank You.  Have a wonderful Mother’s Day.  You are the backbone of our society, and the along with our involved Father’s, the MOST important people in our lives.

Be sure to thank your Mom today, and wish her a heartfelt “Happy Mother’s Day” from Dadsworld.com!
