Hair Cuts

Today our 2 1/2 year old son got his hair cut.  Suprisingly, it was a very pleasant experience… something his last 3 hair cuts had NOT been.  The very first time we cut his hair, he was less than a year old and he did fine.  No crying at all.  He just sat there and let his Mom cut his hair.  The next time we cut it, it was an all out tantrum fest.  Screaming, crying, hysterics galore.  I was baffled.  So, the next time his hair was longer than we could tolerate, we took him to a professional.  The results were the same, lots of screaming and yelling.  It was so bad that I got out the video camera and recorded much of it.  That video will come in very handy when he’s 16 years old, and trying to come across as a typical teenager who is “above-it-all.”  :)

We then tried taking him to another place that “specializes” in giving little kids haircuts.  It had big cars to sit in, movies to watch, toys, etc.  It didn’t go much better.  I even had him watch me get my hair cut a couple of weeks ago so he could see how enjoyable the process was.  He watched intently, but when offered to have HIS hair cut, it was no deal.  So, today we took him to a new place in our town called “Sit Still.”  They specialize in giving hair cuts to little kids, and they were good.  It was fantastic!  He was calm, he got to sit in a little yellow taxi cab, watch a Disney show and suck on a lollipop.  We had warned the staff about our expectations, yet he suprised us all and was a little angel.  The lady who cut his hair, Rebecca, was extemely patient, calm and made our son feel comfortable.  That made all the difference.   :)

It’s so nice when your kids behave in public and display good manners.  What a relief.  We now know where we will be going the next time he is due for a hair cut!
