Earth Day, Deisel and Gas prices
21 April 2008 in UncategorizedTomorrow is Earth Day. I have written about this before, but to many people, everyday is Earth Day. It all started back with the first Earth Day, Aprill 22, 1970. At a time when pollution was thought of as a sign of success, and the environment didn’t really cross peoples minds much. Now over 141 countries celebrate the day, and take actions to improve the environment by recycling, being more energy conscious and efficient, and less wasteful. Overall a great idea, it’s just that some people take things too far.
I drive a deisel pickup truck. In less than 1 year, the price of #2 deisel has gone from $2.41 per gallon where I live, to $4.35 per gallon. IN LESS THAN A YEAR! Talk about a scam. Deisel is so much cheaper to produce than gas, yet it costs significantly more. I would love to propose an Earth Week. During this time, NOBODY uses gas or deisel. We all just shut down for a week, to see what happens to the gas and oil companies. How many billions of dollars would they lose per day. We would all ride electric scooters, drive electric cars, ride a bike or walk. For a week. Think about the impact on the oil companies, not to mention the environment. I know, it won’t ever happen, but it’s nice to think about sticking it to the oil companies every now and then.
I know a good way we really can stick it to the oil companies, check out our review of the Tesla Roadster on the Dadsworld.com main page, under Autos. 100% electric sports car. Very good looks and performance to match. That’s been the problem with electric cars in the past, they look horrid and their performance numbers are dismal. It’s only a matter of time until we really see more cars like the Tesla, that solve those problems.
In the meantime, I will continue to pay $97.38 to fill my tank up. Thankfully I don’t drive the truck every day. Our minivan gets a little better mileage, but even gas is around $3.40 per gallon. I remember just a couple years ago when we were upset at paying $2.50 per gallon!!! It’s infuriating to know that it’s never coming back down. We tend to follow the Europeans here in America, and they have been paying over $5 per gallon for years. We are not far behind. I guess necessity is the mother of invention. Maybe the oil companies are cutting their noses off to spite their face. We all may switch to electric cars and other forms of fuel, leaving them to die like the dinosaurs who refused to change.
