Drawing winner and Ferrari Day!

Today was the annual Ferrari Day at PIR (Portland International Raceway) put on by Ron Tonkin Dealerships and instruction provided by Prodrive.  It was a fantastic, sunny and warm day to drive fast.  We had a lot of exotics, and even a few more ordinary cars today.  2 Lamborghini Gallardo’s, a host of Ferrari’s including several 430’s (even a Scuderia), the new California, an F-50, 355’s, 360’s, 550’s, 348’s, a 308 and even a Mondial.  Porsche also had a good showing with several cars including a GT2 and a few GT3’s, 996 Turbo’s and assorted other 911’s.  There were a couple of C6 Corvettes today, 2 Lancer Evo’s, several Lotus Exige’s, Maserati’s, a Bentley and a few BMW M5’s. 

The day consisted of 5 sessions for each driver on track, a superb lunch that Tonkin provided, and plenty of fun for all.  I enjoy being around the track, and love hearing the scream of a high performance engine at full song.  It’s also very gratifying to see the people come out and really improve their driving skills throughout the day.  High performance driving is NOT intuitive.  There are many skills to be learned, and it’s certainly not as easy as it looks.

I am always amazed at how many people drive around in $150,000 ++ cars in our little (relatively speaking) Portland Metro area.  We have 2 Ferrari Enzo’s in our area as well as a Porsche 959, and a couple of Carrera GT’s…all rare cars indeed.  I had the pleasure of getting  into a Mclaren F1 last fall, one of my alltime favorite cars. 

There is something very addicting about motorsports.  I encourage you to take the time to visit a track near you during an event.  You will see great cars and meet some passionate people.  That’s for sure.
