Camping in the Bonus Room

23 February 2009 in Uncategorized

Last night my 2 1/2 year old son and I went camping  in our tent, which we set up in the downstairs bonus room.  We had a nice temperpedic 4″ pad on which we made our bed.  Sheets, 2 comforters and a quilt.  I turned the heat down so it would be cool in the basement.  We brought Woody and Buzz (from Toy Story) into the tent with us.  We both thought since Woody was a cowboy that he would be an experienced camper (riding the trail on those cattle drives and such.)  We also had Tommy (the tiger), who is Alex’s regular bed pal.

We then listened to Mystic Moods One Stormy Night CD for a while, while we played with the flashlights.  After I got him to put the flashlights away and relax, he listened to the sounds and laid  really still.  Alex really likes the train song, Local Freight, with the loud thunder claps and the train.  I think we listened to that song 9 times before I put in another CD, Nature Sounds.  The sounds on that CD include  loons, birds, elk, frogs, cicadas, a stream, thunderstorms, rain, etc.  All in all it really felt like we were in the deep woods.  On the second time through Nature Sounds, we both fell asleep.

Alex does not like to sleep in just one position.  I wish I had an elapsed time camera that we could watch later to see how many different positions he gets in when sleeping.  He started off right next to me, then he moved 180 degrees so his feet were in my face.  Later, I woke up with his neck literally smashing my face.  At first I thought he was hugging me, then I realized he was asleep!  At one point Woody’s hat ended up on my face and his boots were  in my back.  I did finally get some sleep myself, and it was a really fun evening.

When he awoke at his ususal 7am time, he wanted to “hear the train again!”  Which we did.  He liked camping in the bonus room, and when the weather gets better, we will move our tent to the back yard and give that a go.  Soon he will be camping in the real deep woods with us… and I am really looking forward to that.
