A fun day on the water
31 May 2009 in UncategorizedYesterday we spent the morning at the ski lake. We skied, fished, swam and relaxed by the beautiful water. Then, in the afternoon we took the kids down to the river for some site-seeing and adventure. Both of our children love being in the boat, which is a very good thing for our family.
When we were on the river we saw a Stinson sea-plane take off right over our heads! We watched it fly around awhile and then it landed right by us too. Alex (and I) thought that was really neat. We weaved our way through the fishing boats and made it up to the 205 bridge, then the West Linn/Oregon City bridge. As we got closer to the falls, we saw a man catch a 5′ sturgeon. Then we got up near the falls and had dinner in the misty air.
It was fun for Alex to see the bridges that we drive on so frequently from another perspective. We always point out the boats on the river when we are driving, and this time WE were the boat on the river!
I don’t know if being a pieces has anything to do with it, but I have always loved the water. I find it very relaxing and yet enjoy exhilarating water sports as well. It’s always good to get out on the water with the family and just enjoy being together. My son, who is still 2, swam in the lake with me yesterday as well. I love the fact that he likes the water and isn’t afraid of being in the lake with us.
I will be sure to NOT let him watch Jaws for a long time.
That movie scared me as a kid; I still went skiing in the water, but I was afraid for a couple of years. I remember when I was a kid that I wouldn’t thrash around or splash a lot in the water for a period of a few years after watching Jaws. I didn’t want to attract sharks you know. I also never liked seeing the bottom. The deeper the water, the better. When we camped at Lake Billy Chinook every year, I took comfort knowing that the water was about 200′ deep by the dam. For some reason I didn’t like to see the bottom of a crystal clear lake when I was swimming or skiing. Cultus lake, and Dorena lake had very clear water that you could see the bottom even in 20′-30′ feet of water. I always expected to see a great white swimming around and flash under me.
Thankfully my children don’t share those same fears… yet. I know they will come up with their own crazy ideas to be afraid of at some point. And, I will be able to relate.
